In Serbia today there is a huge gap between the need for the organs and the organs that are available. Currently in the transplant units of the hospitals in Serbia there is a shortage of the 500 kidney, 150 liver and 30 heart transplants. The problem of organ donations exists in the developed world as well. In Europe today, for the organ donation is waiting over 50 thousand people, and in the U.S. over 75 thousand people. Unfortunately, every third patient never gets the opportunity to receive the necessary organ. Serbia joins the global movement of organ donors with a specific mission - to extend a life. People around the world show by example the importance of the unselfish gift to another human being, as one of the most humane and noble acts which are enabled by the advancement of the modern science, and in this case of medicine, specifically.

Legacy of organs is a sign of philanthropy and generosity of a person after death, through the gift of a part of your body for transplant, which will extend the life of another human being who is gravely ill. Organ donation is an act of giving, which often motivates people close to the donors, to do the same thing. The circle of donors is constantly expanding, which increases the chances of survival for transplant patients. One never knows who will need this most precious gift. We need to set a personal example at all levels, in the family, in public life, the community and also to motivate people around us to become organ donors. We need heroes of modern times, and it is now possible by the advancement of modern medicine.

Decision to be a potential donor is confirmed by the signing of a donor card. Signing the card many people considered the most valuable personal expression of the struggle for human lives.

To have a real results in the organ transplantation treatments we need the support of the whole society. Join us in our efforts to increase the number of organ donors in Serbia.

Speech of the president of Humanitarian Organization „Nezaboravak“

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear Friends,

It is my great pleasure and honor to address you in the name of the Charity organization „Forget me not“, and to thank you for your response on our invitation, and with this , you have proved your readiness to support our action that we have named symbolicly „Let life continue“.

Our charity action today is dedicated to the celebration of the human life as the bigest value we all have, and that is excatly the reason why each of us has the same duty to protect life, not only our own lives, but the lives of others as well. By protecting life, we protect God’s creation, and in this we come closer to the understanding of the bigest secret, secret of the life itself , of course, in the boundaries of our human mental capacity.

If we beleive that the God created man in his own image, than out of this comes that he created us as conciences, responsible, and moral beings. Moral strength is the power that moves us and the source of energy to face the problems of everyday life. Our individual responsibility, morality, sociability, is manifested and confirmed through our relationship with other people. This, in other words means that the essence of our social being, what is the essence of the human in all of us, we can achieve only through our willingness to selflessly help others-providing material support, words of consolation and hope. And the best way to love others and to express solidarity with those who have themselves felt the power of love, solidarity and support of others.

I am sure that every one of us many times before in various ways showed and proved his love for other people, their solidarity and readiness to help those in need. I'm sure we do not need to remind you of a number of charity actions, which is the driving force behind the Charity Society "Forget me not". After all, we give help to others who do not need to talk about it, because it casts doubt on the meaning of what we do. Now all of us expect a new kind of solidarity, a new type of humanity, which allow for dynamic development of medicine and other related sciences. This time we should not give a contribution in cash or in tangible form, as it is usual form of charity contributions.

This campaign is a test of our intellectual, moral, individual and social maturity and courage to take on a new way, appropriate to modern times, at life as the highest value, and in a responsible and creative way to access the latest advances in medicine and their application in what is the essence of medicine, but also for all life, make life long, beautiful, dignified, and including the moment when each of us is faced with the inevitable finality of our earthly life.

I will remind you that the greatest courage in this field has been showed by many doctors and other experts and scholars, who have led in recent decades, awareness and responsibility for human life as the greatest value, developing medicine to unknown limits, allowing to prolong human life through the transplantation of organs. They believed not only in their own, but the humanity of all people.

Therefore it is necessary to support this humane and noble mission. We need to show people the moral courage and humanity in a new way by signing donor cards and to show the most beautiful human side, and that is love for others, love of life.
